This poem does not talk of material gifts as such, I am trying to portray gifts of life! Gifts that we almost can take for granted... love, understanding, support, family. These are all gifts.
I have had many gifts;
In my past seventeen years of life,
I have had many toys, flowers and dolls.
All of these I only cherished
For a little bit of time.
Some gifts I was blind to see, to understand;
The ones that weren't given through the hand.
Some gifts I did not acknowledge at all,
But now looking back, I had what seems now like all
Gifts that had been there always for me;
How, I never saw how much love,
I always felt, but somehow ignored
And that love is the only gift that
Still remains within my soul
And when loneliness had come upon me,
When love wasn't always felt at points,
Only then did I realise how much love I used to have.
That was my true and lasting gift
Precious feelings that are still so close to me;
Being needed, being cared for...
Once I was really given a great gift from life,
That gift was you, I believe.
Seems so simple, but yet complex,
You were given to me,
All of a sudden brought into my life,
But I back then, didn't read between the lines
And now that I have you once again,
I don't want to forget how important it is
To have, what I have -
That is love.
All the love you've given me
You've filled my life with so many emotions,
Colours and every day's blue sky.
You're my precious "it" - "the gift"
I don't want to lose you;
All I share with you:
The laughs and the tears -
I miss you every minute of every day,
Your voice I hear calling my name...
There is nothing better in this world than you...
I'm trying to make sense of the words,
But I don't know how to pen down
The words to describe a beautiful gift of you.

I read this poem very slowly so I could absorb it all. Yes, we all do take our gifts for granted: the gifts of having food to eat, a nice warm place to live, clothes on our back, friends and family who love us and the list goes on and on. Thanks for sharing another gift -- the gift of writing. I found this to be very touching. It was a well expressed piece.
