I was reflecting on my life to date
I paused, asked myself a question
"How long is forever?" "Was it more
than an hour, a minute, or a second?"
"Was it more than a month, a week, a
day?" It caused me to contemplate.
What didn't answer my question was
when someone told me that no one
can live longer than a lifetime.
I said, "Thanks just the same!"
Then I summoned up my intestinal
fortitude to closely exam this -
"How about space time continuum?"
All I had to do was stop my clock.
Unfortunately, that did not work -
Nor did standing on my head while
singing the National Anthem; as I
can't even carry a tune in a bucket!
And all of a sudden it came to me -
There are really two separate words as
in 'for' and 'ever' which meant I could
have my cake and eat it to - but not
like on my 17th birthday when my
younger brother was so excited, he
ate my cake - it took both my older
brother and me to pry open his mouth
so that I could blow out the candles.
Now let's get this whole thing straight -
'for' means 'to belong to', and 'ever'
means 'at all times'; so, that tells me
one thing, what you possess belongs
to you; it's your's at all times; that
includes your memories, your dreams -
your past and current loves; all your
good thoughts; and here it comes, if
you hold on tight, it is forever . . . !
