'Like vultures, circled overhead.'

Poem Artwork

Microscopes magnified his tears

Cried for over twenty-eight years

Chose to stay home and be with

his son; a choice he would later

pay for - the sum of all his fears.

Society was very unforgiving - he

walked back into it with faith; was

blindsided, his soul and emotions

were left for dead; he tried to pick

up the pieces - was beaten again.

Weaved in and out of jobs and

relationships; was so worn out

he didn't know which way was

up - he got screwed by both

Like vultures, circled overhead.

Then he turned to writing - found

his 'niche'; each penning got

better and better, as did his

friends, but not his lovers - they

left a lot to be desired.

With the way that part of his

life was, he had to carry a

scale - for no matter what he

did or said, he didn't seem

to get through.

The scale was figurative of course

For he knew he had a lot to offer

Undying love was at the top of his

list, followed by respect, then

taking nothing for granted.

All he wanted was for the right

woman to walk into his life and

share the simple things - and

to grow old together; would

never lose love, nor affection.

But after what seemed an eternity

That scale was still near at hand

Because meeting woman today

had certainly changed - trust was

the one thing that didn't exist.

This caused him to make a decision

Could no longer worry about it, but

rather put it into God's hands; would

happen when he least expected it to

He would no longer carry that weight.

 Reviews of "Carry That Weight"

Hello Robert Sheridan,

Well written and really profound in expressing frustration....the searching alone drains one's emotions and the fear of risks altogether drowns whatever is left to give. But "hope springs eternal from the human breast" and the right one comes when you least expect her to show up - so keep hoping, my friend. (She may even be here at the Den!) God bless your search - and best wishes for you!!!!

Very touching. No one trusts anyone else. Why would one? God will provide. Welcome home. Liz

Robert,
You are right to trust in God to lead you to the right woman, and he will when the time is right. Focus on God and all else will fall into place. Enjoyed this!

Many blessings,
~Linda

Lance, I can only imagine the weight lifted is a feeling that can't be put into words..but I feel it. I think you have 'much' to be proud of,,and it all starts from within..but it does shine without! :)

To Forgive is Divine" God is my comfort!
