Titles attract readers to writings,
Some are exciting while others are biting.
Some are successful while others repel
The best ones create an intreaguing spell


For they are our bait.  We chose one and wait.
Will it make many readers line up at the gate?
We hope so and yet, we should never forget
Great titles are something we'll never regret

I am with Karla and then for some of them it comes to me. Because of a certain song. I try to write about what a particular song means to me and its relationship to the story. Others I let the words of the poem or article dictate the title.

titling my poems is always an afterthought with me, i grab a line or a thought from it and run with it...i'll have to start thinking about it more. i know if it sounds sexual, it often attracts but how do you have a sexy title for a poem about something mundane?

This is SO true. It's the titles that pull the reader. It's the first aspect of the written piece we see. And as the old adage goes: The first impression is everything.
