Candles and Flood Lights We aren’t privy to see the whole picture That’s just the way the world is But we see enough to know Which way the winds blow And when we're getting the biz. Someone who just wants our money Is someone I’d rather not see Someone who can pluck at my heartstrings Is good enough for me. Those who live only in darkness Are blinded by the light of day While those who dance in the sunlight Get to watch their skin melt away. To all the truth seekers assembled And all those who are yet to be Learn how to settle for second best Your sanity didn’t come free. And love sweet love at its finest Is a fleeting commodity You seize it and squeeze again and again And find it’s sailed out to sea. Philosophers scour the depths of knowledge To find what they never can reach In the end we all know The truth they bestow Is just a figure of speech.

I'm bewitched by your phrase, "While those who dance in the sunlight get to watch their skin melt away." It has the tone of my dark shadows that I hold dear. Evil people can be likened to vampires who dare to dance in the light. I've met a few of those.

Interesting poetic take on the risky ruse of life. A couple of things; you might want to consider changing "we" in the first stanza to "we're" and in the 4th stanza, "You" to "Your." As we're both aware through previous experience, "...one who plucks your heartstrings is good enough for me." Only if you've identified their agenda. Is it you, or something you represent...or can be taken away from you. An arresting piece of thought, especially for those who've not yet experienced some aspect of the "ruse."
