Stay Out of the Middle
I’ve never bought the beliefs on the right
Always thought their thinking was dumb
My hometown was full of shit
I had to get out of it
With a toothbrush a comb and my thumb.
Here I am more than 60 years later
I’ve traveled the whole world over
Spent a few nights in jails
Twice rode the rails
Slept more than once in real clover.
Moved 42 times I did
Let nothing grow under my feet
With my kisser intact
It’s a matter of fact
I marched to a much different beat.
The road less traveled is lonely
It’s full of ruts and glitches
It’s not for the meek
And not for the weak
And definitely not filled with riches.
Still I’ve found something that’s priceless
No matter wherever I go
Stay as fit as a fiddle
Never walk down the middle
You’ll get killed by the status quo.
Thanks for revealing a bit of your life in this poem. A most interesting life, indeed.

I admire the bumpy road you’ve travelled...for it has brought
you to where you are now...you have carved your own future
rather than be pushed into a life that ‘just happened’...
To march to the beat of a different drum is my way too....
A leader not a follower of what the heart encourages...
A brilliant, gritty statement...
