Gazing intently at a hazy summer skyline,
on the outside looking in to a life that’s not mine.
The leaves, my dear are starting to turn red,
looks like we never meant what we said.
Your clueless eyes constantly search my face,
trying to find some meaning to the love we’ve displaced.
Love displaced, or was it ever really there?
We put on the mask of love to disguise our lust my dear.
Running wild with thoughts of a forever never really there,
but the time has come to reap the bitter harvest of despair.
We look with anticipation when we see the leaves turn red,
but remember my darling, we never meant what we said.
Why is it that you can’t get it through your head,
that you can’t get back what you've never had?
We followed the path of many a lost soul,
re-lived the tale of a story many times told.
As we kiss that last bittersweet kiss,
I taste your soft salty bitter lips.
On the ground, look my love, a leaf that’s bright red!
Its’ dying just like us, we never meant what we said.
