I WAS AFRAID

COPYRIGHT 2001, WANDA HARRELL

He strode into my life as a total surprise.

Tall and dark was he with piercing eyes.

I was frightened he might make my heart ache,

Just might cause my heart to break.

So, I made up my mind to just be his friend,

Never allow myself to fall in love with him.

Dreams rarely come true , or they say it’s so,

But I couldn’t hold back...my feelings began to grow.

I was frightened he might make my heart ache,

Just might cause my heart to break.

I was mesmerized by him--but didn’t let him know.

I held back--I didn’t want my love for him to show.

I really strived to not fall in love with this man,

But before long, he held my heart in the palm of his hand.

I was frightened he might make my heart ache,

Just might cause my heart to break.

Slowly, tenderly, gently our love we began to share,

Until I understood that he did more than 'just' care.

Dreams rarely come true , but they were wrong

And so it is that I sing my love song.

I had been frightened he might make my heart ache,

Just might cause my heart to break.

But his compelling eyes of brown on me were focused.

So, love for him continued to grow, and finally my trust.
