Love letter to a distant lover,© 2002, Wanda L. Harrell

Poem Artwork

Darling,

I feel compelled to tell you that where you are concerned, my wishes radically overshadow the realism of my everyday existence.  Although time and distance has taken a toll regarding most other aspects of my life, that is not the case regarding you.

While others think I am busy with mundane tasks and thoughts, they have no idea of the imagery that constantly whirls around in this mind of mine. They see a woman who is busy pursuing the business of life, but their eyes cannot see into my mind and heart. While their eyes focus on the smile on my face, they know not what I am thinking or wishing.  And if they did, their pale faces would most likely blush with the scarlet coloring of a red rose.

Darling, I find myself wishing so much of the time, wishing that I could once more be enveloped within your arms to feel your throbbing heart as it beats furiously against the soft, pale flesh of my chest. I find myself wishing I could once more sense your height as you slowly lean over to kiss me, experiencing the thrill of the moist and tender warmth of your lips tenderly sipping the wine of my being as your kiss miraculously consumes my very soul, drinking it in to blend as one with yours.

Yes, my darling, before that last breath of life leaves this body of mine, when I can no longer inhale the sweet fragrance of your skin, I wish.... Before my eyes close, no longer sparkling with delight, nor shedding a crystal tear, I wish.... Before my mouth can never again emit loving and naughty whispers into your ears, I wish....

Before I close, I must ask, do wishes really come true ?
