My still drowsy eyes surveyed
the articles displayed upon
the table beside my bed.
As I rested, but became more awake,
I realized that each item, thereupon,
was in one way, or another, associated with you.
The brass lamp, like your presence,
gives forth light in the darkness.
You have shown me light that I knew not existed.
The crystal clock reminds me of the time,
the sad times that we are apart,
and the joyous times we are yet to share.
The telephone where I first heard your voice,
prompts the cherished memory of the first time
you said that you loved me.
The framed photo of you is what I touch,
in your absence, before I go to sleep at night,
and greet, with a smile each morn.
So, see my love,
how just the simplest of things provoke thoughts,
many wonderful thoughts, of you.
The table by my bed is filled,
as is my heart with love for you,
but the place beside me in my bed is empty.
