He strode into my life as a total surprise.
Tall and dark was he...with piercing brown eyes.
Dreams rarely come true , or they say it’s so,
But I couldn’t hold back...my feelings began to grow.
I was mesmerized by him...but didn’t let him know.
I held back...didn’t want my love for him to show.
So, I made up my mind to just be his friend,
Never allow myself to fall in love with him.
I was frightened he might make my heart ache,
Just might cause my heart to break.
Slowly, tenderly, gently our love we began to share,
Until I understood that we did more than 'just' care.
They said dreams rarely come true , but they were wrong
And it is for that reason, I sing this love song.
Now, his compelling eyes of brown on me are focused.
And my love for him has continued to grow, as has my trust.
I was frightened they would be right and make my heart ache,
But finally I knew he wouldn't cause my heart to break.

Trust and love are beautiful things. You spoke of them wonderfully. Nice rhythm and flow...I enjoyed this one very much!
