In the turmoil of the black knights mind,
He dons his battle dress,
Fair maiden looks insanely,
At this man that she detests,
She knows that in reality,
Her husband stands alone,
Dressed in night attire,
In the middle of their home,
But in his mind he’s in the field,
With a mace and chain,
To fight his wife’s own true love,
Every night he does the same,
Fair maiden stands before him,
But he cannot see her face,
They’re in the room together,
But his mind’s in another place,
Fair maiden stabs her husband,
With a broadsword to the side,
Her husband sees the phantom knight,
Who months before had died,
Though wounded by the broadsword,
He swings his mace and chain,
He doesn’t see her falling,
Or hear her cries of pain,
Fair maidens spirit leaves her,
To join her noble knight,
Her husband doesn’t know this,
And continues with the fight,
He swings the mace and chain around,
As he moves to and throe,
Crockery and tables break,
Beneath the mighty blows,
Then suddenly the black knight stops,
Everything goes clear,
The phantom knight and battlefield,
Just seem to disappear,
As though from out a nightmare,
He had suddenly awoke,
With the passing of fair maiden,
The wizards’ spell was broke,
But his troubles were not over,
Great commotion had been made,
He stood there with a mace and chain,
By fair maiden who was slain,
The guards were duly summoned,
And as they surveyed the scene,
The body and the mace and chain,
Only one thing this could mean,
The black knight in his temper,
Had smitten down his wife,
Such a deed on maiden fair,
Could carry but one price,
The black knights life was forfeit,
For such a callous act,
In shame his neck was severed,
By the falling of the axe,
And as the cold steel touched his neck,
A sound echoed on the wind,
Maiden fair and her noble knight,
Were laughing down at him.
