As a child you rely on your family to show you love and care

What can you do when they seem so unaware

Your mother and father wrapped up in their own world

The constant fighting and yelling, anger and indifference

Your world is a shattered glass ball

You must tread carefully lest you get cut

And when it’s turned on you, what can you do

When your father hates you, and you know it

Feel it with your whole heart

And with no need, he keeps proving it

But your mother needs him, has to have a man

Thinks she can’t make it with two kids on her own

Where does that leave you, her child

Feeling alone and unworthy of better

And you grow up feeling these things

You can’t go with out a man

He twists your insides till they  resemble a pretzel

He rages at you, claiming your worthlessness

He abuses you in all realms unmercifully...yet you stay

Your children watch in fear and confusion

You try to comfort yourself with saying…

 at least you know what they feel

You can talk to them, tell them you understand

You do all you can to shield them

But it finds them just the same

The cycle continues through you

Are you strong enough to break it

Is your fear of being alone in the world

With no money and two kids more than you can stand

Can you be stronger than her, your mother

Take your loneliness, insecurities and worries and flee
