I have only three 9-11 poems in me. One is already on this site ("To an All-American family") and another deals with that day in light of some of the local police officers and firefighters I've had contact with during my career. This is the third.
Please don't be offended by this work, but like most of us, the only exposure we have to New York's public safety agencies come from the safety of our TV rooms.Using the taglines from some past television crime dramas, I put together this unlikely tribute to New York's Finest and Bravest as regards 9-11.

And in the Naked City,

on a day when three

thousand stories

came to a violent end,


When the third watch

roared to the Towers

and went in where others

fled, doing their job of

saving lives, where some

never came out.

Some gave all after

kissing little Harvey

goodbye for the last time.


Now we all weep and salute

with the words of paper heroes

for very real ones.
