Dawn Stillness
In the still of the morning,
while the dew still lies upon
the leaf, I rise,
slipping out of camp before
others awaken.
The forest listens, steeped
in slanting rays,
and I listen
with bated breath.
Slowly, the forest
gives up her secrets with
soft stirrings in the brush:
tiny animals awaken, and
quest for food, and
a doe nibbles at tender twigs.
I watch, feeling more
a brother, than intruder.
A new day brings
new mysteries
from an old way of life.

'I watch, feeling more
a brother, than intruder.'
That's how I feel, too.
