Working at the Shelter

Changes in society, the direction of a dream, observations by those internal.

 It was like Helter Skelter
Working at the shelter
The premise on which they began
Twenty plus years ago was noble

Women and children
Children and women in need of help
from partners who demolished their worlds
Along the way the direction has become distorted
The goal to help those in need
Remains a most worthy deed
However, kindness like rain falls from above
This feeling has flown away like a dove
Workers paid so little

Relied upon so much
Required degrees for counseling and such
More often turned into drivers of a transportation bus
Those with positions above
Show clients and workers little love
The shelter a status symbol of sorts
A way to prove to the community
They are doing their civic duty
Instead of utilizing the talent inside
Leaders choose to toss workers aside
Clients now come in many forms
Seemingly happy to live in the dorms
Abused women and children, of course
But in the same space drug addicts, alcoholics and many other sorts
Administration often not reporting the money they receive|
Continuing to deceive
The public looks the other way
Happy to let others save the day
If only the old days would return
When there was genuine concern
While some care and concern remain
Suffice it to say
It's just not the same

Very descriptive poetry. Powerful!!!
In reference to the content:
This should not be!!!!
I don't know where is this place.
But it seems that it is not fit for
an animal let alone the human race!

Bless you for trying to help others!

Never stop trying!
