She laughs and dances to songs
that make no sense
to anyone but her
Spinning and twirling until she falls down
into a sea of green and confetti leaves
where she lays
flattening the grass seeds to snow angels
Smiling that toothless smile
at the spider spinning its silken snowflake
catching the last of the days light
high in the climbing branches
where the pink petals like raindrops
call home
Almost as high as the clouds
that play with her when she’s alone
Painting with their cotton candy spray can
the princesses and fairies
like those in the stories
we read before bed
The fairytales I read
knowing when I’m finished
she will kiss me goodnight with those butterfly kisses
and tell me
I’m the best daddy in the world
