Malice in Wonderland
The looking glass is not so clear
as it was even at this time last year.
The world events were getting squirrely
and even Alice thought that surely
her adventure in Wonderland
would soon come to an end.
Yet here we are in some strange world
groping for stability, hoping for civility
as the wizards of Wall Street
can no longer stand the heat
and the politics of want more power
are now the bywords of the hour.
The malice in Wonderland makes me ill,
and sometimes I think I took the wrong pill,
I should have swallowed whole the one that let me sleep,
would have been better off if I could keep
the knowledge of who we are closed up in a jar
and who we will be hidden from me.
How can we salvage the remnants of good
when scavengers pick the bones dry and bathe in the blood
of the innocent bystander, what hope is there now
to leave our children better off, somehow.
I strain to reach the light switch, to turn off the dark
but hope puddles around me, reality too stark.
Be always safe,
Karen
