 Then and Now

Yesterday...

How can I fix

Your fear?

How can I comfort

Your pain?

I've tried

Still cry.

I want to

I've survived.

Today...

How can I fix

Your fear?

How can I fix

Your pain?

I can’t

I’ve cried

Still want to

I’m tired.

Reads like a tormented cry for help. I know that sound, I heard it last night after I couldn't sleep for two hours because I was cold and my legs bothered me. She was at wits end because I couldn't convey to her what I needed in my search for sleep. This has gone on for twenty years and is likely to continue at least ten more. I'm not sure she can continue to take on the burden she has.

Somehow, I am able to handle it as long as I have help. But all of my helpers are now complaining and I'm not sure if I can replace them when they quit.
