Drifting
I wish that I could close the door
Upon this life, that gives such pain.
Find myself on a distant shore.
At another place and start again.
Each night I lay in bed awake
Sleep evades my tired soul
Pain not dulled by the pills I take.
I sink into a hellish hole.
Memories drift from long ago
Of all the times, I loved and lost.
I drifted as with the river’s flow
I never stopped to count the cost.
I sometimes feel the evening chill,
As twilight sets upon my soul
Soon night will come to steal my will
I’ll drift to a place where I will be whole.
I turn and look upon her face.
I trace the contours within my mind.
Upon her cheek a kiss I place,
Within my heart, her love I find.
At last, I’m drifting off to sleep
Spiraling down into the night
Into the darkness, sinking deep.
I drift toward the morning light.
