Is this your Dad?
Ring him today and tell him you love him
************************************

Friends

Each morn he rises from his bed

Scratches, feels the stubble on his cheek.

Has breakfast when the cat is fed

Then off to the park, his friends to seek.

Sitting at the table in his favorite place

His pieces set out before him.

Munching on a piece of cheese

He waits to see his best friend Ben.

Ben arrives a little late, not too well today.

He thinks Old age, is catching up

Pours coffee, then they start to play,

Checkmate! It’s Ben who’s up.

They laugh and speak of better times.

Joining them, a homeless man.

He’s a little drunk, they pay no mind.

To them He’s just a guy called Dan.

They share their coffee bread and cheese,

Talk and have another game.

Just a memory is the winter freeze

Morning frost, and arthritic pain.

They wander off to their favorite Bar

A game of pool with good mates

Discuss their favorite football star,

See the clock it’s getting late.

They wander off go separate ways.

Home for dinner, then to bed,

This is how he spends his days

Good friends and memories fill his head.

He’s waiting for that coming day

His weight will be gone, no more pain.

She will come to take him away.

Be with his beloved once again.

As he’s drifting off to sleep

Remembers Mary the one he’s missed

With Love so pure and love so deep.

He feels on his cheek, a gentle Kiss.

How beautiful!! How nostalgic! It sounds like he departed a happy man. He gave a lot of love and received love in return.

God bless, Robin!

Sandie.

I like that one.
Though I actually fear that time. No matter how stressed I am now, one day there will be nothing left to do than meeting with friends and awaiting the next day. Something I can't imagine right now - and not sure how I'll cope with this.

This poem warms my heart,it's a very meaningful poem ,last lines especially good.Excellent message. My dear old dad is departed now(it will 7 years soon)but he is still thought of with love each day by me(I miss him heaps)I was very fortunate to spend lots of time hearing his old time stories and jokes(some many times over but always funny)I feel sorry for those folks who can't say 'I love you' to their parents or who lose their dad or mum before they get to say it,life is so short and that's why your poem's meaning is so good by reminding us all to say and do the important things while there is still time.Thank you for writing it,it'svery good work.

Kind A SLOw In The Kootenays v2.2 by RickthePoetWarrior

Has-beens and coffee get together to recreate a same old new tourist trap in a land even the First Nations don't want.
