He spoke to me of unhealed hearts
and their struggles to syncopate;
he talked to me of true love lost
and a damaged emotional state.
I knew his words before released,
I had harvested them from seeds
planted by my former lover
and another woman’s hurtful deeds.
I listened as his story unfurled
reliving the hurt and anguish,
grieving the once bright union
sundered and left to languish.
With tenderness I wiped his tears,
this new soul mate of pain,
he would not have to walk alone
where I had once trudged in vain.
I spoke to him of friendship’s hearts
their melding in kindness and grace;
I talked to him of serenity found
in the smile on a dear friend’s face.
I knew his heart was broken
but I knew it would also heal,
forged in the fires of compassion
blessed with friendship’s seal.
I speak to you of healing,
a place where your own heart will mend;
it is found in helping others,
by being a true and steadfast friend.
