There was blue –
like the midnight sky as it draped
beneath the full moon,
deep sapphire, nearly violet,
darkening to black as
it fell to earth.
There was blue –
like the sun kissed waves as they caressed
silken, bleached sands,
cerulean waters, sparkling
in their sensual dance
to Helios above.
There was blue –
like the early summer blooms
of delicate forget-me-nots,
azure blossoms sprinkled
among the sweet flowers
of a verdant garden.
There was blue –
like the slate flecks found
among the golds in your eyes,
where I discovered succor
from the world’s battles and
a homecoming for my soul.
There was blue –
the color of stability and calm;
it washed over us,
took us within its cooling folds,
lifted us to new perspectives,
beyond the horizon.
There was always blue –
yet you opened me to worlds
of cobalt, royal, beryl, and cyan,
transforming blue and me
from sad shades and hues
to the lapis lazuli of heaven.
