This is a poem inspired on the last visit to my grandmother's house just before she passed away as a result of a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. It is featured with the painting in my book "Intus: A spiritual Journey from within".
I sat in the midst of the field behind her house
Time morphed, and it was like yesterday when I was a child
Suddenly, time was frozen
I crossed from the green grass and picturesque houses
Into a whole new world only a stream's jump away
The wind gently blew the cool air and the smell of spring
The sunlight made the days feel so alive
Reflecting off the daffodils that grew freely amongst the grass
The daffodils I yearned to pick every visit
I spent hours in that field, picking the most pristine flowers
I went there for the last time and it was as if the wind transformed time She still watched over us as she had for so long
I wanted to give her a spring bouquet, but gathered nothing
She was gone
Motionless listening to the birds sing and the leaves rustle.
Wind blow through the grass ushering change
The flowers grew untouched
The daffodils would remain beautiful for everyone to enjoy
-- there would not be a Spring Bouquet
She always told me that she was looking forward to seeing me soon.
Today I believe she said goodbye
Poignantly heartfelt write, Ava. Beautifully expressed, with a profound sense of connectedness. Love it!
Peace and Blessing to your Grandmother, you & family,
