"The Old Boat"

Is there a “story” behind the painting of the old boat? Well, it was painted about 40 years ago by me during an oil painting class I took through Arlington County. My instructor was an extremely talented artist. He was very complimentary of my work on this painting - particularly my sky and the effect of the waves on the sand. I was proud to bring it home and some years later I gave it to my sister Carol. At one point it no longer fit with her décor - she had “downsized” her home - so the old boat returned to the artist and here it resides to this day. It’s one of my favorites. I can imagine standing on the shore perhaps as a young girl, holding my Daddy’s hand and asking him to tell me a story about the old boat…..where did it come from….why is it just sitting here….toward that imaginary scene, I crafted this poem….a tribute to all little girls and their fathers for this Father’s Day:
