Silent Waves

Poem Artwork

Without a thought they cross the shore..

Retreat as one, loves burned core..

Liquid steel as cold as ice..

Through sand and stone they cut and slice..

A piece of life, each passing tide..

Beneath the waves these world collide..

One of pleasures one of pain..

They sing their sad and soft refrain..

The siren calls so bittersweet..

It clings to hope in such defeat..

If water is the blood of life..

We live upon a surgeons knife..

For it will build then take away..

Then come to build another day..

Tempting fate with risk and chance..

Flowing through their deadly dance..

And so it goes..

On and on..

As sure as dusk gives way to dawn..

From waters edge to oceans deep..

These silent waves shall never sleep.

Absolutely mesmerising and captivating, like the ebb and flow of waves themselves. Excellent poetry which is soothing and haunting at the same time. Quite hypnotic! Could easily be swept away by such tides... "If water is the blood of life... We live upon a surgeons knife..." powerful metaphor and imagery! Loved this, Erica. Thank you, Kate xx

This reminds me of Lorelei near Franfurt Germany. She is the siren of the Rhine river. Myths explode from facts I think. It just depends on how creative the witness can get. Your poem is soft and tender and well written. Reminds me too of Hans Christian Anderson's "Little Mermaid". I visited all those statues with their legends/myths when I lived in Europe. I wonder why here in the states we don't have our own sirens??
