Once I almost bumped into
a frayed woman, with her dirty-blonde
hair and ragged sweater, wearing
house slippers, and clutching
a greasy grocery bag
as if it contained
the Holy Grail.
Her eyes were like shattered glass,
worn by the cruel sea into emeralds
of disbelief, a prism capturing
images from another life,
seeing everything,
seeing nothing.
I still find it astonishing:
such a mirror for our hungers,
pieced and proven in this
singular flesh.

Kevin, You showed the sad ending of life. A story left within the shell, the person's past, and you said it well.
