 The Player

So it goes to find out

That what I thought was never true

To think I crossed your mind by night

Or day when the sun came through

The window pane that seemed clear

Was cloudy nonetheless

Skewing views into the heart

Leaving quite a mess

On the floor of the room

Where I dreamed by candlelight

Blow out the flame with your breath

Hurry! Before the bird takes flight

Into the sky where lovers fly

Without a safety net

Twill never be your hiding place

Therefore you'll not regret

Decisions made in your sleep

Cannot wake you up

You'd rather drink from a waterfall

Instead of a measured cup

Overflowing, free and truly real

Not part of who you are

After all a player is a player

But words only carry you so far

Around the perilous actions of

What's really going down

You hope to hide it oh so well

Til you make the princess a clown

At a circus when it's over

The actors can all go home

But you're stuck inside the fiery ring

You can't lose what you don’t own

Anything of value

Anyone who stays around

Makes you run up the hill

Where Jack lost his crown

Of sorrow of the natural man

Discerning not the prize

Denying it defeating it

Til you cry it out of her eyes

I absolutely love these two lines . . . "You'd rather drink from a waterfall / Instead of a measured cup" I interpenetrated it one way, I hope that is the way you wrote it.

A perfectly flowing verse from beginning to end.
You have definitely found your niche. Well done.
