They say not to

 Comparisons

A Non-Traditional Poem

© 2014 Sherry Bach

They say not to

But it's just so hard not to

Compare the way he made me feel

To how you make me feel

With him there was much confusion

With you there is no confusion

I know exactly what you think of me

I wasn't sure when he was thinking of me

If at all or how

You tell me how

Every other day in many different ways

His zigzag ways

Left me feeling dazed

The clarity of your words leave me dazed

Sometimes they linger for days

With him I wondered for days

Seeing something where there was nothing

You could take nothing

And make something

With the touch of your hand something

Becomes alive

He takes alive

And makes it dead

No more to live but dead

You urge life and light

Closer to the source light

And at its conclusion

It has no conclusion

Without contrasts how would we know the good,
the beautiful, or the sublime from the ordinary or
the dreadful? Take away contrasts and put the poets
out of business. Well stated, Sherry.

I'd take the one, and leave the other aside… Compare no more.

Most of us have all been there. It's really darkness masked as light. There is no escape or compromise, you got to pick up, dust off and go to another place. Chalk this one up as experience and when you reach the true light there will be no confusion. I pray you will find the way. Amen

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
