What do you live for? I'll tell you what you live for.

Never Changing Unavoidable Death

Easter Thoughts 4.4.15 © Sherry Bach

What is it that you live for?

What makes your life worth living?

Is it the birds…the cobalt blue backs of the mountain bluebird flitting around by the bird feeder in your backyard spreading beauty in color for your eyes to behold?

Is it the dog who loves you every time you come home no matter how long you've been away?

The cat who purrs when you pet her…every time?

Maybe it's the places you get to see on your travels…mountains, desserts, oceans, lakes?

Is it for the people? Do you live for the people?

Your kids perhaps, who you are so proud of?

Or friends and family who make you feel like you matter and love you just the way you are?

Is it service to your country?

A sense of belonging to a cause that fights for freedom?

Maybe it's the music?

Do you live for the music and the enjoyment you see on the faces of the people who listen, knowing you moved them in some emotional way?

Your work?

Is it working everyday that gives you something to hold onto? A worthy position that provides for life's comforts, a house, a car, food?

Could it be your health?

Is it your health that makes your life worth living? After all you say you still have it.

Is it love?

Love that works mysteriously in ways we don't understand? Love, that allows us to do things we would never otherwise do? Love that gives us the confidence to accomplish great things?

Surely it's love?

It has to be love but it's not love at all.

What motivation is there for living if not love?

What drives you?

I'll tell you…it's Death.

It is Death that keeps us running?

All the other things can change, be taken away, move on, pass away, or die before our very eyes, but not Death. Death can never be taken away from us or change.

One thing is certain…one day we shall all die.

Death will come knocking. It will show up when we least expect it, or right on time, but nonetheless, it will come.

It is Death that we live for.

It is Death.

The reason we breathe in and breathe out is Death.

Death motivates us to live.

Never changing, unavoidable Death.

Thank you everyone. Not meant to be morbid Michael, just a philosophical moment where I realized that we are all living for the moment we die...I mean that in a symbolic, beautiful and motivational way, although there is some darkness involved whenever death is around. Sometimes I think we all forget that one day we WILL die and that there is no time to waste. I'm not even sure I know how to fully explain any further where my thoughts for this write took me. I just write what comes...lol...a willing vessel for the pen. Take care all.

interesting, kind of a fatalistic viewpoint, and enjoyably dark. Kudos!

An interesting perspective. Perhaps that's why I've never passed up living life to the fullest, even though there were those telling me to play it "safe." Safe for what, death?

You are absolutely right. We can never play it safe enough to avoid death. But, by playing it safe, we may miss out on the greatest joys in life.

I live for today, because tomorrow is not promised.
This was a rather morbid write for you.

Well I say it's Jesus Christ that gives my life today. I am not a preacher man but Jesus helps me through the day. His Word is precious in every way. Jesus Christ is in my heart. The fact that it will soon be Easter is a reason to celebrate a brand new start! It's life eternal that's what I am after. I want to live with Jesus in the hereafter. Only He can make me so happy today. Only Jesus can make me feel this way. Death does not phase me. it does not scare me at all. I welcome it in my time, for death (like you say) will eventually takes us all. So what IF there is a wonderful hereafter? Why would anyone roll the dice on an ETERNAL happy ever after?

You are, of course correct. Death is the true inevitable. We have those who believe we will have eternal life if we but believe . . . Still Death claims us first. I do not believe in fairy tales. However, in my later years I have come to understand that almost everything is composed of electrical stimuli. I can't explain it anymore that than, but I am beginning to believe in reincarnation. Do I find myself believing in it in order to not fear death so much? I don't know. Still . . . One thing is forever true, Death will claim us all.
