My Heart Would Otherwise Be Stone

© 1.18.16 Sherry Bach

My eyes need to see a sunrise

Forget about what I knew

Find that place before the dawn

The awakening of emotions new

Stare at the sun as if it could

Burn the desire away

While vapors fading remind me

There is no hope in yesterday

If only I could, I'd forget

Bury it deep in the ground

Hide in a place that's safe

Where I know I cannot be found

But maybe the problem of it all

Is that I don't really want it to end

I place the thought of what could be

On the carousel again and again

Oh! The riches of your touch

Your kiss forever mysterious

In your arms in the candlelight

I dream til I am delirious

Hand to hand and eye to eye

Slipping into forever

Imprisoned by the fantasy

Don't take it from me ever

Keep me here where I can see

The madness of it all

Lead me to the edge of love

Blow softly and watch me fall

The courts and their judges have nothing on

The sentence which is my own

I shall serve it with gladness knowing

My heart would otherwise be stone

You have not only illuminated this thing called love,
you've done it with rare imagination, wisdom, and tenderness.
Bravo!

Love can compel us to endure much and feel much. Though disappointments may overtake us, stronger is the heart that strives for such love. For what is failed may rise again renewed. I enjoyed your words. Bob

In the first person for emphasis, your poem strikes home to that elusive quality called, "love."

Finding love is a wonder of highs when it starts...but,
the pain that comes from the lows is quite staggering
as I'm sure you know...

Always,

Excellent tribute to that elusive thing called love. Sometimes, however, when we put so much burden on the shoulder of the "one," without understanding that eventually the shoulder can weaken, yea, weaken and fall away from its burden.

Next Arrivals by Robin Ouzman Hislop

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
