Troubled Mind

Here’s a sad story about a man from the Blue Ridge Mountains
Such a sad story about a hick with a broken mind
Just spends his days alone in a forest near a rock and a stream
His history is very foggy and distant
No one really knows the truth about his past
Local folk talk and whisper
But only the man from the Blue Ridge Mountains knows the facts
The story just starts off like any old tale does
A group from out of town hiking out in the Blue Ridge Mountains
Spots an old man in need of at least a talk
They approach the old geezer sitting on a green grass rock
Ask the old man with head down if he needs any help
When he looks up they are shocked at what they are witnessing
What they see is a man with a broken heart
He stares right through the group of hikers
Stringy hair flowing down to his shoulders
Dirt and blood stains across his face and on his ripped clothes
After about a minute of total silence
The old man just turns his head away
The hikers frustrated and hopeless
Gather their spirits and begin to walk away
But after only a few gradual steps forward
They all decide to go back and try to give more help
To the lost soul in need of first aid
When they return to the rock and the stream
They see that the old man has completely disappeared
So the group leaves and goes on their way
Letting the people who follow
See the ghost of a man with the troubled mind just for one day.
