original poetry

-----------------------

Finally
alone

No one around me
family, friends, near and far
of what use is a contact
when one cannot touch
one cannot hear

Love in all the many faces
has abandoned me
as ages pass
in seeming rapid succession
in slow procession
the hope fades
slowly

painfully
too slowly

There is no rapid dawn
the hot sun of realisation
that there is only a desert
seems to take forever
to rise

just as well

The only rain
is the weeping
and nothing can grow
in a dead sea of tears

Which is worse
the waiting
or the being there?

The end isn't near
but is clear
and never far from thought

Is there any chance
for me?

Depression is tedious
and others will drift away
to happier times and faces

It is easy to retreat
when no one will follow

Then
in solitude
no one will notice

Finally
alone

A Chorus of Voices, a book of original poetry by Fr. Kurt Messick, will be available Spring 2003.

I loved your evocation of loneliness and isolation. I knows... He is always there and we are never truly alone cos He loves us so. Being His child is a wonderful thing!

Can't say I ever feel alone. A higher being is there looking over me. I know only too well for I get a lot of comfort in these depressing times when my mother is seriously ill.

like the final lines especially, and so true ... "It is easy to retreat
when no one will follow" ... so true.
