Perhaps said I not so much in verse,
Or in poetry my bestowed convert
For everyone has a moment
They maintain
In their heart’s deep detain.
Everyone has a secret
They whisper to themselves alone;
Their goings and their comings
Are timed by their clocks alone;
Never sharing their seconds and minutes
Lest they run out of time themselves.
And I thought I had that someone
To myself alone.
His goings and his comings
Always close to admire alone.
In her eyes always tall,
Dependable, strong and whole.
Never did I see you as something apart
My nafs and yours in my soul a single heart.
In her eyes always tall,
Dependable, strong and whole.
I saw you above the flaws
I saw around me, my son;
The kind I abhor, I loathe…
So perhaps I did take you for me alone;
To share this gift of graciousness
On my part an unwillingness.
Never did I see you something apart,
My nafs and yours in my soul a single heart.
.
Light beam shining to my heart’s content
You, a sweet musk in my inner room draught.
In her eyes always tall,
Dependable, strong and whole.
Son, the day you came,
Entered you not in vain,
Your name on my lips all day and night
A word of God,
No longer a neglected light
A blessing countable only by God
You are too noble an utterance, son,
To be forgotten or tossed away? No, my son.
Shame, Safi, for keeping to self alone
Sharing’s a blessing, so no more living it all alone.
May Mother-Poet, — the Author of "us, Poems" — keep feeding the humanity of Your mind to nourish the eternity of Your Soul.
