The Birth Of A Poet

Beginnings of a line
On a night so dark and dreary,
But my heart is so heavy and my patience so thin.
I can barely stand the agony.
Surrounded by the company of my own voice.

On these nights,
I feel like a transient in my own body.
Being a torture to myself,
Because I had no place to go.
And nothing else better to do.
Than wish away these words filling my paper.

I’ve seem to have lost my touch...

So here I remain.
Contemplating the general knowledge of my life.
With no matter of how much it may be lacking,
And no visible line to cross.
Sadly, a sparse existence.
And no shame to stop me from admitting it.

I’m a fakir of many things...
Except for this.

Had it not been for the accidental tearing of my heart,
Could I have understood the damage in forgiving too soon?
If I had never felt a loss so deep,
That I thought I would never speak again;
I would not know how to put silence into words.

I am not a poet for stringing a pair of subconscious thoughts in place.
I am not a poet because my heart can depict a single look in infinite ways.
I am a poet because I know that simply...

One cannot exist without the other.

And tonight, if I sit here long enough,
It will soon become clear to me that maybe I’m just a liar after all.
But then again,
It has never been up to me to decide...

We are not in control of the Muse, Mariah, and you capture that p o w e r f u l l y. Are our words truth? Lies? Doesn't matter: they are OUR children. :) Up to the reader to decide..........I love this poem, one of your BEST! Thought provoking excellence!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

You write well of this view into the poetic mind and how it is viewed from the other side of thoughts expressed and written memories...nice work...

enjoyed this poem of depth.....Art Sun...

The creative poet can find words when the Muse is resting at times. There are many times when I'm numb and my energies want to write but my senses have been twisted and in need of a rest. Everything good comes in moderation.Your words here were tossed around because your Muse was resting but you woke up the Muse and I'm proud as she that you did. The finished product is remarkable. This is beautiful.

Love,

Mom

I always felt that an inspired write was worth more than one of many words with little or no feelings or emotions attatched to them, for a muse is a powerful tool that we must use. Enjoyed this write my friend!

An introspective look that all poets take and express in the written word as you have done.

Muses set there own agendas and we as mere poets must follow the dictates of their whims. Even the quality of their work is their decision, I have followed their courses and sometimes my work is mediocre but when they inspire me with a great one as soon as the keys stop clacking I know they gave me somthing special and I thank them.
