Where Others Fear To Tread

Clouds throw pall in front of my fingertips,
Searching for the creases in the silence.
Where screams are hidden and drowned by the swell,
From the storms where Heaven fell.
With the listless and dreamy,
The hopeless and the bleeding,
The places where only the broken men dwell.

I left my shoes by the fireplace.
Penetrating the shadows with the form of faces.
All but you are present in this trance,
My hands tracing the cells of skin,
Where the familiars hide inside the balance.

I search the graves…
For the shapes of your name.
My screams are hidden and swallowed by ghosts,
Tasting the breath from their stolen host.
The watching and haunted,
The senseless and taunted,
Leaving imprints in granite stones,

I left my pulse on the steps of the front door,
Came here searching for you, finding nothing more.
Fingers writing against the leaded glass,
Disappearing messages fading too fast…

And I am crawling towards you now,
My voice frozen so I can’t speak.
It’s getting harder to move around,
I’m already tired and weak.
With the restless and the jilted,
The soundless and the wilted,
And hearts that are dying to beat.

The importance you place on what you feel is awesome, and the way you describe it is deep and vivid, as is your love, that is so evident in this write.

Your depth of seeing life is different and it gives others a perspective they may understand when, before, they didn't. I'm always surprised by your poetry Mariah and I know why your depth runs so deep. Love,
Mom
