I did not want to die

The feelings were overwhelming

Too much to take

I sat down and cried

As I felt my heart break.

The pain from my past

Was killing me inside

I wanted to run

I wanted to hide.

I picked up the familiar blade

Knowing what I was going to do

I pressed it hard into my wrist

And watched as the blood seeped through.

This time it was different

The blood kept flowing out

I was terrified

But did not have the voice to shout.

I ran around my room

Not knowing what to do

I knew this was very wrong

I just did not want to feel so blue.

I wrapped up my arm.

Lay down on the floor to cry

I knew at that moment

I did not want to die.

I knew at that moment I had to get help

It was an easy decision to make

If I stayed where I was I knew I might die

And that was a risk I was not willing to take.

I went to one of the two people

Who I knew would care

They stand by me

Because my family is not there.

It was a terrifying night

I completely fell apart

But there is a life waiting for me

I see it in my heart.

The healing process has just begun

There is a long road ahead

But if I can stay strong

One day I will not be so sad, but happy instead.

As I look to the future

I have to work through my past

The memories will always be with me

But the pain will not always last.

I have to stand up

He cannot hurt me any longer

I have to face him

So I can be stronger.

I am no longer the scared child

Torn apart and abused

I am now a pissed off woman

Who knows she was used.

Now please stand beside me

As I seek compensation for ten lost years

It will not be easy

To overcome my fears.

No matter what happens

I will make it through

He no longer has the power

To make me feel worthless and blue.

Oh Jenna, I could not pretend to imagine what events in your life brought you to the point of surrendering your life. Two points I will make: first, you are blessed to have friends that you know care about you and second, don't ever, EVER surrender and give the doer of evil the easy way out. A brave and courageous poem, I commend you...Dave
