Dr. Clairborne's observation of a Type A society.

Gnats---dancing frantically in the sunlight, and

It reminds me of people--- chaotic and frenzied,

Randomly and mindlessly creating beautiful

Formations of possibility, but then scattering

At the hint of opportunity for something bold

And eautiful to occur.

They stare---just long enough for the butterfly

To pass them by and reach it’s perceived horizon;

Then it’s back to frantic living.

Who has time for beauty anyway, when

There are so many obstacles in the day.

When there are households and corporations

To be run; when status updates and tweeting

Must be done; when your’re caught up

BBM messaging someone. Who has time for life?

I mean, who even has time for a husband or a wife?

That circular band around your 4th finger left hand

Is only there to remind you that somewhere in a land

Far far away (called your home), there is only your

Perfect compliment waiting, along with mini-versions

Of your combined DNA, also updating their statuses,

Tweeting and BBM messaging by the way.

You just read that your kid conquered the 4th world in

Final fantasy when he’s supposed to be

Conquering trigonometry---so you comment on his facebook page?

Do You know why the sky is blue?

It’s because blue is the supposedly the shortest wavelength

And when it scatters and reflects it just happens to be

The one wavelength our eyes can see.

It’s called Rayleigh’s scattering; and

It reminds me of how we scatter.

Attempting to take the shortest distance

To our destination instead of enjoying the journey on the way.

It seems the destination is all we care to see..

And if we are working toward the shortest distance to death

We may be well on our way, however

If happiness is the final destination we seek,

We may want to re-think our strategic short cuts…

Like Gnats;

We may want to dance frantically in the sunlight

Creating beautiful formations, but with awareness.

Put down touch screens and actually touch things—and people.

We may want to get back to date nights, and watching

Pay-per-view fights with chips and dip and

Vulgar tongue slips while talking a little smack to the opposing team.

We may want to enjoy potlucks with friends and delicious

Meal blends followed by cuddling up in front of the TV

And watching a great movie.

We may want to relish playing together, and

Treasure praying together while sitting around the

Table for a family meal.

Be still

But live life.

And dance frantically in the sunlight.

Because the day after tomorrow could be

The day that Your Earth

Stands Still.

I enjoyed this! I love the part about the why the sky is blue ironically we claim we feeling blue all the time. That's crazy! but I would say your message is right on because we do not have time for each other. I've experienced this in a lot of my relationships and hell I'm not even married. It seems we all trying to grind for stuff thats temporary and we gonna spend most our life working trying to make a dying instead of a living. It's a shame but maybe we can turn it all around and your poem gives a lot of hope to encourage us to live each second to the fullest! Again Great Read and God bless!
