He was twelve and all boy

Dressed in his hockey gear

Waiting for the game

To start.

He looked up at me

And said

“Do I get a lobster if I score?”

Hedging my bet a bit

I said

“No, that requires

a hat trick.”

Three goals.

After the game

We took him out to eat

And I will never forget

The look on his face

When the waitress

Sat his plate

In front of him

And he came face to face

with two lobsters.

After all,

A Deal’s a deal.
