This is from a book of 62 poems written for children 3-7 years of age,by Dr Audrey Coatesworth, a retired psychiatrist. These are written with the purpose of encouraging values such as kindness, caring, sharing. They are meant to be read, without explanation, to children by parents, teachers, carers.

The picture above Iwas drawn and given to me by a 5 year old - 'a robot mouse and a robot tree' . So I wrote this poem for him. The Robot The robot looked about ‘I’ll go for a walk’ But his battery failed so it couldn’t even talk A robot plane had wings So that it would fly But the battery failed so it couldn’t even try The robot dog had a bark So loud it could be heard But the battery failed so it couldn’t say a word You are not a robot Can walk and talk and run You don’t need a battery and you can have some fun You can help each other And I think you will find You don’t need a battery to learn to be kind
