In an eyelid's blink
Life changed suddenly
In an eyelid's blink
She was there
Then she was gone
No notice, not a wink
She could never return to talk
Rationally, as before
No longer go for a walk
Never answer her own door
Living, as if in a corner
Somewhere in her mind
To the rest there was
No access. All was so unkind
No understanding of the day
Or the love she still was given
God took the Mum I knew
When her mind was riven
She lived on in the twilight
Till that part was closed as well
Yet of her dark experience
Never could she tell
Did she know how we cared?
Did she understand our tears?
But I was with her at the end
So someone knew my fears
God heard my simple prayer
Without needing any phone
And so my, dear fragile Mum
Did not die alone
