This is a poem about the coping mechanism of a child in 'dire need' - e g pain, extreme fear, extreme hunger or abuse', when he/she can not cope within the confines of the body. A young child has the unconscious ability to separate away from his/her body until the pain has eased, become lessened sufficiently to cope or abuse has stopped. The more pain etc to cope with, the greater is the degree of dissociation right to the point of having no memory for the event/pain.But, the child is not alone!
A Child in Need
‘No one to help. No one to cease
No one to know. No one to ease
No one to hear. No one to see
No one to feel. No one but me
No comfort given. No hope in tears
No soothing hand. No stop to fears
No end to pain. This cannot be
I will leave now and not be me
I will be safe, even though alone
Into the darkness, into the gloom
No one is there, but I hurt no more
A different place, another room
Who are you who sees me?
Who are you who holds my hands?
Who are you that I can hear?
Who are you who understands?
I wonder are you really there?
Or do I merely feed
On stories of love and kindness?
That I know a child must need
I feel safe while I am here
I can believe I have a friend
I can pretend I have a doll
I will stay till pain will end
I like it here much better
But you won't let me stay
You are just as cruel when
You send me now away’
‘Little child you must go back
We are with you every day
You must grow up and live
You must also learn to play
One day you will understand
And others learn from you
Goodbye now, journey well
Take care - we all love you’
In her body she found herself
To live her life was her belief
She must carry on somehow
When there was no relief
But now she knew a difference
Somewhere in her inner sight
On that dark level deep within
She had been given a little light
No hurt could ever put it out
It was a comfort in her tears
No one else could see it
But for her it vanquished fears
Sometimes it was of brightest blue
Sometimes a lilac flame
Whatever she must go through
That light remained - the same

Good there is some hope at the end as children should not have to suffer like this in the first place.
