A inspirational poem about the search for Wide, wide skies. The poem is featured in my first poetry collection American Lyricon: A Poet Sings of America.
I
Should I sing of America?
As my fathers have done?
I know not the land
They have seen
From shore to distant shore
For evermore new gospels
Ring for hopeful spirit,
Ingrained, that no anguish
Could ever break.
I stand for tomorrow
Long to see the sun
Underneath wide, wide skies
II
No shame, no sadness
Such is the time I sing
Beneath these wide, wide skies.
America, America
I praise my right to be
Give me a wilderness
Renewed in the spirit
That made our passions strong
And brought sanctuary
To the pioneer, and the pilgrim
Who with hard work,
Brought forth a grand ideal
No tyrant could over come.
III
Let our dreams expand forth
From our hearts and minds
Take the dawn bridge the twilight
Braid the two as one.
Rebuild anew that morning
For a future where our children
Can dream and lay foundations
Across the stars, give their children
Wide spaces to lay on open fields
Look into wide, wide, skies
And know there are worlds
Not yet explored, a wilderness that
Can be preserved too
In the vastness of their imaginations,
To dream, under wide, wide skies.
In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
