They Look Down

They look down

as they approach me

on the sidewalk

and pretend they don't

see me

They don't speak

or even smile at me

But at 6'1 225 lbs

how could I be invisible?

But they walk right pass

me as if I am something

less than the flesh and

blood that is my body.

Could it be that somehow

they feel justified

if they don't look me

in the eye?

They don't seem to care

that I laugh, cry, work

and play just like they do

I love and I bleed too.

Cause when I smile and speak

to them, my words fall to the

ground in front of them

and are trampled by cold

feet

Maybe I could be their friend

if given the chance

But I'll continue to hold

my head up, smile and speak

even though they look down

Sad one.
If they look down at you, just ignore them. You don't need them. You got lots of friends in here. One cannot be appreciated, accepted and loved by everybody.

It happens.... people can be rude in many areas. Sad to say, but its alot of mean spirits floating around. Sometimes in life were better of if they do pass on by !!! Fine write ....best always !

I can relate, I really feel you on this one,
at 5/3 and 200 lbs. But it's there loss, because here, you are a man well respected and highly thought of and admired...In other words: Looked up to! Remember, GOD made all hearts from the same ingredients. ***much love***denise

Well GM, It would be hard to look down on somebody with a frame such as the one you have described. Lots of feeling in this write of sadness. ~SH~

A sad write-unexpected from you, but I liked it all the same. I know how this feels and I believe that if everyone really thinks about it-they have been there as well:)

This write really hit home to me,
my friend. I have never felt "good
enough" or equal to the world. I
stay to myself alot because of feeling
so inferiour. This touched me deeply
this morning.

People either do one of two things when seeing men like us, look down and away, or stare. I prefer the stares, as I respect courage.

You are definitely a man who should be looked up to and it is their loss to those who look down. A beautiful write, GM, it touched my heart.

Ahhhhh such a brilliant in depth piece that speaks in great volumes and says so much more than what you have really written, and it would seem we all wonder the same about one another! Brilliant and Exceelant Work!!!!

P.S. Just for the record I most assuredly would not pass you by or anyone else without at the least saying "Hello" :O)

No Eileen, when I was young and in my prime with my youthful step and uplifted eys ... they never looked down. It started happening as I grew older and older and older. The more older I got the more they looked down.
It has something to do with old age. The older we get, the more invisible we become.
