Mugwump and the Mouse

Her middle name is Mugwump
and she is a little scamp,
Calli likes to roam the garden
even when it’s damp.

Calli found a playmate
A cute little harvest mouse,
She wanted to introduce him
and brought him to our house.

He scampered past our bedroom door
and stopped to say ‘Hello,’
Then off into the bathroom
where he thought he had to ‘go.’

He had big eyes as black as jet
and whiskers long and twitchy,
On all four feet he wore white socks
and his ears were large and wiggly.

We caught him in a little tub
‘cos we knew he could not stay,
Our house is full of other cats
who have a different mode of play.

Somewhere in our garden
he has his little nest,
And if Calli wants to play again
to avoid her would be best.

With hide-n-seek she’ll soon get bored
then she’ll come back home,
To settle on our bed to sleep
and in her dreams to roam.

When she wakes up and wants to play
the scallywags’ content,
To chase our Sammy down the stairs
or in other ways torment!

My "author tracker" was out of commission on AuthorsDen so long that I missed this one! Very cute and I sincerely hope the little mouse's name wasn't Aesop?!

Both your Mugwump and your tiny visitor sound delightful, Jackie, as is this poem. So glad to hear Mousie escaped back to the garden, too.

Nice to see you posting!
