The fourth couplet was an experience my husband had as a radio operator many years ago, in the navy. A number of ships in the area were on the same frequency, with a five mile range, his was the ONLY message picked up 150 miles away by the L.A. Fire Dept. They complained he was 'interfering' with their communications!
Air Waves
They say the flutter of a butterfly’s wings can cause a storm elsewhere.
That radio messages sent many years ago can still be travelling through the air.
A Second World War fighter pilot’s final words as he fought his last dog-fight that day.
A message from a radio with a five mile range was picked up one hundred fifty miles away.
What strange anomaly is this that rules the airwaves dissemination of speech.
I wonder just how far into the universe they reach?
What a wonderful thought! That the last words of a fighter pilot could be floating around in the chaos out there, waiting to be heard again. Good stuff!
What a wonderful thought - that our voices might be heard "out there" - - - maybe even "way out there".....who's to say. I really like this though - made me sit here and think about it a bit! Great write Jackie.
I like to think that radio beams and oral communication still possess magical powers, and if we listen closely we can hear native Americans singing here on the plains of Kansas from thousands of years ago!
