To Gerard Manley Hopkins
In an age of doubt, you kept the faith;
Built the path for the poet to take,
Made a method of how language could
Melt itself into what it said.
You used sound for sense
And with the lens of an eye
That pierced everything it saw
Out-side-in and in-side-out,
Even included God in your vision.
In a convent’s haven you dwelt;
Choosing quality, not quantity.
In verse divine you dipped your soul,
Paving the road that took Yeats and Eliot to their goal.
A beautiful tribute to Garard. I enjoyed it.
Love and blessings,
