My Lord, I Need Help
I ask for your intervention, my God;
I need help. The shafts of unkindness hit me,
Leave me maimed, blamed, alone in flames.
When I hope for love, that is a distant dream.
Screams and glares fall to my lot. I dare
Expect no more than an uneventful day
As events come with hideous burns.
One learns each day only to unlearn
What the previous day taught. My voice
Dimmed, my movements cornered, my expression
Thwarted. I wait for you, my Lord to look down
And burn all that baffles, scorches me, with your frown.
