The Soul Needs to Soar
Fighting is basic to humans; quarreling is natural.
The soul needs to soar through aggression and victory.
If I need to give vent, why should you complain?
The sun does not always shine; darkness does come on.
Why should you expect me to remain eternally bright and beaming?
You did marry me and we did take the pledges but every promise
Cannot remain unbroken; and then there is a limit to which
I can remain mute, a wife controlled. To curb the hound in me
And to always play the poodle, is unnatural; it cannot go on.
You say your mother tolerated her man; perhaps she did.
She had the misery of nowhere else to go; she was tied to him.
Then, she was probably superhuman, a goddess, perhaps.
And I am no tragedy queen. I am one who will never
Pretend for long. Society is all pretense. It ties you in chains;
It stifles you, it doesn’t let you breathe. I have always lived in the skies,
In the clouds, where there is freedom to move around. I need this freedom.
And for God’s sake please do not talk of love. This is the most misused
Word that I ever found. It is, if you ask me, neither here nor there.
Your poetic expression speaks volumes!
Well done!
