Pickled Instincts
The bird that builds for seasons has reasons
Enough to disperse and begin the process
Yet again. Why does it not follow its family’s
Connections unfalteringly? Can it see where family leads?
It is not social, has no forced promises to keep
That society pickles and puts into stuffed birds, which
Decorate human homes; homes that pickle
Instincts and preserve relationships too long.
